Credentials

The owner of Childers Law Firm is Jack A. Childers, Jr., who is a native Memphian and has been actively practicing law in Memphis, Tennessee, for 32 years. Mr. Childers has tried hundreds of civil cases in both state and federal courts, in various cities and counties throughout the state of Tennessee. In addition to trials in state and federal courts, Mr. Childers has handled a number of appeals before the Tennessee Supreme Court, the Tennessee Court of Appeals, and the Worker’s Compensation Panel of the Tennessee Supreme Court.

Education

Mr. Childers graduated from East High School in 1967, having for 12 years attended East Elementary, East Junior High and East Senior High Schools. In 1971 Mr. Childers graduated from Rhodes College (then Southwestern at Memphis) with Distinction with a B.A. Degree, majoring in English Literature. In 1974 Mr. Childers graduated from Vanderbilt University School of Law with a J. D. degree.

Licensure

Mr. Childers has been licensed by the State of Tennessee to practice law since 1974. Mr. Childers is admitted to practice law before the Supreme Court of the United States of America, the Tennessee Supreme Court and various intermediate appellate and state trial courts in the State of Tennessee. Mr. Childers is admitted to practice before the United States District Courts for the Western District of Tennessee in Memphis, the Middle District in Nashville, and the Eastern District in Chattanooga.

Professional Activities

Mr. Childers is a member of the Memphis Bar Association, the Tennessee Bar Association, and the American Bar Association.

Mr. Childers has served on various committees of the Memphis Bar Association, as well as the American Bar Association. Most recently Mr. Childers served as a member of the Asbestos Task Force of the Tort Trial and Insurance Practice Section of the American Bar Association. Mr. Childers was one of thirteen attorneys from throughout the United States invited to be a member of this Task Force, whose mission was to deal with various issues related to asbestos legislation, currently pending before the United States Congress. Mr. Childers served on this Task Force for the full two years it was in existence. Mr. Childers is currently a member of the Litigation committee of the Memphis Bar Association.

Continuing Legal Education

Mr. Childers believes in the importance of continuing education and has throughout his career attended numerous professional educational courses throughout the United States in various areas of expertise. Mr. Childers has for years exceeded the amount of continuing legal education courses required by the Tennessee Supreme Court.

Mr. Childers has from time to time taught various professional meetings and has served as a guest speaker at such meetings in Memphis and in Nashville. Mr. Childers has volunteered to sit as a special judge from time to time and has frequently served as a judge in moot court competitions of various colleges and universities throughout the country.

Personal

Mr. Childers has been married for 32 years to Jennifer Childers, a dermatologist. Mr. Childers has two boys, Chris- who teaches Latin and Greek and coaches tennis and squash at St. Andrew’s School in Middletown, Delaware, and Patrick- a sophomore at Christian Brothers University in Memphis, majoring in psychology.

Mr. Childers has for years served as a baseball and basketball coach for various church, youth league and recreational teams. He is an Elder at Evergreen Presbyterian Church, where he has been active in all sorts of committees and programs for many years.

Mr. Childers enjoys sports of all types and maintains an active lifestyle running and working out frequently, and playing golf occasionally. Mr. Childers enjoys ballroom dancing, reading and photography as hobbies.
